Beautiful things

Beautiful things

(From a wedding at Nixon Presidential Library which I designed the wedding flowers in Spring 2017)

I am always drawn to beautiful things by its nature. The blue color of the sky, the grainy texture of the sand on the beach, the gradual color change on each flower petal, and the sweet singing voice of a child. These are what surrounded us almost everyday but it depends on whether we paid any attention to them.

I am blessed to have two little boys. My youngest child is the one who points out the special moments in our ‘normal’ daily life. A while ago, we vacationed at Del Mar when he was two, we were rushing to the swimming pool. He was falling behind behind us. I looked back and he was just sitting next to the bush on the hotel ground, pointing at a purple flower and said “Look Mommy! It is beautiful!” His simple act of appreciation immediately stopped our busy footsteps – we rushed to work, we rushed through traffic, we rushed through meals, even we were trying to rush through our vacation. I looked down at this little child and gave him a kiss. It is him who makes me realized, that I need to slow down, take a deep breath, learn to look around and appreciate all the precious things around us. Live in the moment, treasure the people around us, and count on the blessings that we have.
